Throughout the Merc's history, it has been an integral part of town and nearly every local family has some connection to the place, since it has always been the local's go-to spot for daily groceries and it has also been used as a school, a saloon, a dance hall and a gathering place.

Simon and Tabitha Graves are the ninth owners of the Merc since Billy Stewart built it in 1896 with his friends Bert Cummings and E.L. Knox.
